Meet Stella…
PHILOSOPHY and EXPERIENCE
I first began working with birthing families in 1999, through extensive postpartum-focused work, midwifery apprenticeships and didactic education.
Throughout the decades, I have provided many forms of caregiving, from birth doula services to working with elders and developmentally disabled adults in supported living environments, as well as providing comprehensive midwifery care as a state licensed, nationally certified midwife in a solo home birth practice in SouthCentral Alaska, and as an herbalist.
I carry deep reverence for the enormity of the layered transitions families encounter upon welcoming a new life, and have observed that newborns contain impeccable wisdom and exquisite emotional responses that are important to protect and honor.
I believe that our earliest impressions of the world and the way babies are welcomed and handled lays down the blueprint for a person’s lifelong experiences. I make it my heart’s work to keep this front of mind.
Likewise, I see that during their most vulnerable moments, birthing parents face a pivotal experience that can define a sense of autonomy and self-empowerment— important for growth that lasts a lifetime and infiltrates all aspects of living.
At Origin Story, I center my clients’ sovereignty as the best decision-makers for themselves and their families. I love doing all I can to equip people with evidence based, time-tested information and offer meaningful hands-on support. My goal is to help elevate families' confidence levels, their trust in themselves, and the ability to make informed decisions about their care.
It’s so very rewarding to witness my clients feeling emboldened to step forward courageously into their inborn strengths as new parents.
“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers - strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
CREDENTIALS and MORE
I graduated from Via Vita School of Midwifery, and am a formerly licensed home birth midwife.
I hold current certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), credentialed through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice(ALPP), and am a professionally trained childbirth educator through the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) and postpartum doula through Doulas of North America (DONA).
I also hold current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification (NRP), and have my Basic Life Support card (CPR for healthcare professionals) through the American Heart Association.
As the Creatrix of Village Herbals, a business I began in 2005 and sold in 2022, I developed a line of herbal formulas still used throughout the state, and beyond, by many midwives and other alternative health care practitioners.
I am the mother of two adult children, as well as a writer, musician, gardener, herbalist and artist. I live on a homestead with my two dogs, bee hives and chickens, just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska.
